absence makes the heart so big it wants to explode

By far the best thing about being away from home is realizing what amazing family and friends I have. As some of you know, the adjustment from Portland to red state Wyoming has not been the easiest thing in the world for me, but you know, I have never been more grateful for the people in my life than I am right now. You are all so flippin amazing! I mean, I always suspected as much, but now I know for sure and I have to say it is a pretty spectacular thing when your own good fortune slaps you right across the face.

Now, for some other good things about being here.

1. Having someone cook all my meals and do all my dishes.

2. Being 6 steps away from my office. Best commute ever.

3. The wildlife. Bird watching has never been so easy.

4. Honor system bar.

5. Feeling like the most cosmopolitan person ever.

Also, I am having the craziest dreams ever. The first night I couldn't sleep for the life of me, but now I am falling into these deep, deep sleeps and dreaming about people I haven't seen in years and years. And last night, I had a dream my roommate was poisoned from drinking the water up here. Have you ever seen The Stand miniseries? That's how she started to look laying in bed next to me. It was gross. But then I woke up, let the faucet fill my owl canteen with ice cold mountain spring water and chugged it and guess what??? Still alive!! For now.

Anyways. I have the day off Friday - and a half day tomorrow - going to try and arrange a horseback ride through the Absaroka mountain range. Count on pictures if all goes according to plan. (*Fun Fact - Absaroka is pronounced Ab-SOR-ka and comes from the Crow Indian language where it means big black bird). Ravens....The Stand...pagan mountain goats...bones, dead animals, furs....I'm telling you...this land was made for horror. Maybe if I get some free time once it's warm out and then I stumble upon a video camera, I'll be able to make an amateur horror film! Oh man, that'd be awesome.

Hope you're all well. :)

  3. I might have to switch favorite mountain ranges. I really liked the Absaroka's when I thought they were called the Ab-sa-RO-kas. Now that I have been enlightened as to the correct pronunciation, I may have to join the Bitterroot fan club. Little chance of mispronouncing that one.

  4. You know I am pretty sure Wayzata is pronounced Whyzetta because it too is from the Crow language.....I think....

  6. Obviously we miss you and love you too, Louise. Though I must say - the reason I don't watch scary movies is so I don't have creepy ass dreams like yours.
